How To Make Long Shadow In Photoshop

In this tutorial I will show you how to create long shadow in any version of Photoshop.

This is free, easy and does not require any third-party plugin . So let’s get started …

First create a new project.

I am making its square but you can make it in any resolution you want. Now press ctrl+ shift + n in Windows to create a new blank layer. Fill this layer with a solid color  you want. I am filling with a light color press alt shift backspace to fill foreground color.

This time we need to add some nice looking stroke .Make a duplicate layer by pressing ctrl+ J and
double click on this layer to open layer styles.

Now go to stroke tab and add a stroke. please see the image below to see my setting. Try to copy first and then do it by yourself .

Now go to blending option and make fill opacity 0.

Now your stroke is above on any of your layer ; shadow and text will be behind this layer.
This time add your text ,I am using bold font but you can use any one make it white. So it will visible on your background color. Make a duplicate layer and put it behind this text fill it with black by pressing alt backspace.
This layer will be our shadow layer. Now press ctrl + T  to transform this layer.
I am adding an angle of 45 degree; please note this angle depends upon your shadow Direction . I want to create on 45-degree down left, you can make it on any direction you want.
Here is the main trick, press alt and arrow key this will make copies of this shadow layer in the
same direction in which the arrow key is pressed.
Make around 100 copies depends on your choice of shadow lengths.
Now select all shadow layer by selecting top layer and press shift and click on bottom shadow layer right click on layer and merge them together .
press ctrl T and change angle to minus 45 if your angle was 45 then make it minus 45. This is your long shadow you
can make it even longer by making multiple copies adjust opacity as you like by following these steps you can
make these type of shadows too .
